Patricia Robinson: From Office Admin to Carpentry Apprentice & Community Builder
Take a break, we’re on Smoko. This week we’re joined by Patricia Robinson, a carpentry and welding apprentice whose journey into the skilled trades is as powerful as it is inspiring. From an office chair to a job site, Patricia's career pivot proves that it's never too late to chase something you love.
Initially unfamiliar with power tools and the world of trades, Patricia took a leap of faith—and found her passion in carpentry. Supported by mentors, community, and an insatiable curiosity, she grew more confident with every new tool and technique she learned.
“The first time I picked up a power tool, I knew I’d found something I wanted to master.” – Patricia Robinson
Now immersed in her apprenticeship, Patricia shares her experience balancing job site training with schooling, and the gratitude she feels for her union Local. She looks ahead to becoming a journey-person with pride and purpose.
Patricia’s impact goes far beyond her trade. She volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, helping build safe and welcoming homes for families. She’s also active in Women on Site, a community space where tradeswomen uplift, support, and empower one another.
She credits much of her inspiration to the tradeswomen community on Instagram—seeing other women thriving in carpentry motivates her to keep learning and to pay it forward through her own platform. Her story reminds us that growth often starts with one bold move—and community makes all the difference.
