Sinead Clarkson: Quantity Surveyor & Advocate for Women in Construction

Take a break, we’re on Smoko. This week we are joined by Sinead Clarkson, a dynamic quantity surveyor who is working to redefine the construction industry through advocacy, education, and representation.

Sinead’s path into quantity surveying is anything but traditional. With a background in sciences, she found her calling in construction and quickly became an outspoken advocate for women in the industry. Her work with Girls Under Construction and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) highlights her commitment to exposing young women to trades and professional pathways they might not otherwise consider.

"Career paths are never straight lines; mine had lots of detours, and I’m proud of that." – Sinead Clarkson

Sinead discusses her academic journey, including a dissertation that examined strategies for increasing female representation in the UK surveying sector. She emphasizes the need for real data and measurable strategies to address persistent gender gaps in construction roles.

In addition to her career, Sinead is also pursuing a Master of Laws of England and Wales, showcasing her drive to expand her expertise across disciplines. She shares how platforms like TikTok have become powerful tools in her educational outreach, helping challenge stereotypes and inspire a new generation of women in trades and construction leadership.

From advocacy to academic research to social media education, Sinead brings a modern, intersectional lens to an industry ready for change.
